Counseling Ministry

"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety."  - Proverbs 11:14 KJV

Why We Counsel?

Our counselors hear something similar to this often: " I am so thankful I came. I dreaded being lectured.  You counseled me with truth and came alongside me."

Simple answer to why we counsel?

Counselors help struggling people get “Un-Stuck!” Marriages have life areas where spouses get stuck. They get stuck with parenting struggles. Their children get stuck. Single people get stuck. Life issues can be difficult with anyone, often leading to all types of struggles: anxiety, fear, worry, guilt from bad decision making, anger, abuse, alcoholism, drug abuse, conflicts, communication problems, work performance, insecurities, etc. These stuck areas can lead to physical illness, labeled disorders, emotional struggles, and even death. We counsel all areas of life issues.

Why we counsel? The Bible says about humanity is stuck; the Bible says this about a man's heart (mind, intellect, emotions, conscious, will).

Jeremiah 17:9

"The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked.  Who can really understand it?"

Proverbs 28:26

Those who trust their own heart are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe.

Proverbs 15:22

Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.

So, people need counseling and the Bible tells us that God encourages and expects people to seek counseling.  People's hearts (mind) often experience ongoing confusion and/or misdirection, even when they assume they are right.  Seeking counsel is wise, when maneuvering through life's difficulties.  Our goal is to Equip one struggling with the tools to stop destructive behaviors, journey through emotional turmoil, and deal with all life issues daily.

God did not design man to go at life alone.  Faith Counseling Ministries was created to come alongside struggling people, and lead them and provide them with tools that enable them to deal with every day, difficult life issues, using biblical Truth.

How We Counsel?

First Session:

Review the Intake form (see download; if possible- print, complete, and bring with you).

  1. The counselor will review the counseling process with you.
  2. The counselor's goal is to get a "Big Picture" the first visit.  The Big Picture helps the counselor with insight from past life conditions and experiences.
  3. The counselor will lead with questions, easing the stress of not knowing what to say, how to say, or fear from not remembering.
  4. Remember, the counselor is there to come alongside you, leading you to how to get unstuck, solutions, and growth.

Continuing Sessions are dependent on:

  1. The complexity of the life issues at hand.
  2. The counselees desire to continue.
  3. The counselor's assessment of progress.

Our Primary Counseling Text: The Bible and supporting material that comes directly from the Bible.

2 Peter 1:3-4

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.  We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. There are promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires.

What To Bring?

Bring an open mind and an open heart.  Counseling works only when you are committed to the process.

We ask you to complete an intake form with your information.  If you would like to print a copy and fill it out before you come, that might save you some time in the office.  Click to open the PDF Intake Form

From a woman who had tried everything she could looking for help, came to the office and during one of our meetings said, “I’ve been helped more in these three or four sessions than the 30 years of seeing specialists and all the meds they’ve tried on me.”

A wife and business owner whose husband had sexually abused his stepdaughter (who is now an adult), after sharing truth from the Word, said, “Why hasn’t someone shared this with me before”?  The husband had confessed and repented years ago.  The Mom had sought answers from specialists and even attended seminary searching for peace.  She, her husband, and daughter (who said she would never speak to her Mom again if she ever forgave her stepfather) are now in business together.

After asking her in our first session if she ever had an abortion, she said, “Why did you ask me that question?”  These are questions we ask everyone.  Her response was “Yes, she had had an abortion.”  She followed through with post abortion counseling and has been used greatly in the lives of many young ladies since then.  Fifteen years later, in a conversation with her, she says to me, “I can’t imagine where I would be now if it wasn’t for you asking me that question years ago.”

A sport’s writer for a university, hurting about his wife leaving him and taking the children, prayed to receive Christ with me in the office.  When leaving, he said, smiling, “You know I didn’t come here to get saved?”
